Hope the rainy Monday won't make you feel the Monday blue na ka....still hearing some birds' chirping in my
neighborhood........ so lovely ka.
I'd like to share two stories ka:
First, my niece attended a course entitled, ''Exploring the Inner World', which follows the course, 'Who
Am I?' that we both attended separately ka.
When she came back, as usual, she would tell us what she learned, what impressed her most, etc. This time, she showed me one exercise asking her to identify some situations/people that touched her. She said she told the group in her first course about her parents so this time she wrote about me.
She's very concise so her writing was brief. It was about me who was to her..... beautiful (um!), smart, independent, never stops doing good. The last sentence was that of all the younger ones, she's my fave.
She may not have noticed it but I was teary for several reasons. It was unexpected. I was also happy when she mentioned about 'good deeds' ka....for me it is more precious than anything loei ka. I thought of how proud she was being my fave too.....it could be tricky to say right out but it sure increases pleasant feelings and closeness ka!
We both had following exercises to identify what we both have in common....a fun activity to do together.
I think of a few philosophers about expectations as well! Don't expect much and it's better not to expect at all. Agree mai ka? I'm gradually learning to get it.
The second was about my talk to a group of students about exchanges. Normally, I only share stories about myself when it's sort of negative to let them know errors and mistakes could happen and it's always safer than talking about others!
This round, I decided otherwise! I told them what I learned from staying in the US, namely, issue about weight and respect. I shared with them my ship for southeast Asian youth experience on stereotypes and the meaningful friendship 30+ years later with even deeper learning about life and culture so the students practice thinking and reflecting more what the exchanges can bring. They were very interested and I think the stories helped connect us together for the full 3-hour session ka. I myself also revealed my naïve/silly thinking which was fun too.
For me personally, besides a satisfying session, quite a few stories popped up in my mind too.....time to reflect more again!
I tend to feel a bit awkward and embarrassed when writing a bit too much about myself....hope you find it bearable ka.
Happy Monday and stay dry ka.
