Megatrends and New Normal in Higher Education

Hi! I'm back again after a series of activities to do ka.

I've been preparing quite a few talks and reading some good articles to offer the most updated highlights, especially for the most recent international workshop on New Normal on IZN which focused on quality mobility ka.

Let me share 2 highlights na ka:

1. Six Megatrends

A study by Hay Group and Z_Punkt was conducted to come up with six long-term, transformational process with global reach, broad scope, and a dramatic impact
firmly established by 2030.

They are:
  • Globalization 2.0 – economic power shifts to Asia
  • Environmental crisis – leaders must embed sustainable cultures
  • Individualism –design ways of working to suit individuals to retain talent
  • Digitization - high standards of integrity and sincerity
  • Demographic change - an aging population chronic skills shortages and a fierce war for talent
  • Technological convergence - the convergence of nano, bio, information and cognitive sciences with untold new product markets, and obsolete products

2. New Normal in Higher Education

Three key issues are identified:
  • Cloud is an answer, not the question -- Strategies:  Let stakeholder needs drive the discussion; Examine ROI; Know your limitations
  • Enterprise systems are strategic assets-- Strategies:  Rethink your definition of ‘enterprise systems’; Get strategic in your processes; Go native
  • Student Success is an institutional imperative -- Strategies:  Eliminate roadblocks and barriers; Take a holistic perspective; Let strategy drive technology (not the other way around)

On the whole, it makes me worried thinking about the quality of our graduates and the competitiveness in the world....well, even in our region and country ka.

While the world is focusing on technologies and talents, let us ponder and see what we've been discussing whether the issues can bear real impacts on the overall quality of educational provision, and whether our efforts could possibly lead to shape our graduates for their future or not.

My heart is frozen ka!
